Livestock Processing Techniques and Marketing

Livestock remains a key driver of our economy today and will continue for a long time to come. The Kenya government just like many African Countries continues to support initiatives that seek to provide enabling environment for the livestock industry to thrive especially in the Arid and Semi- Arid (ASAL) Areas.

Direne Packaging and Business Advisory Services brings the much needed expertise in improving the competitiveness of the cattle, sheep and meat value chains by increasing the productivity and boosting marketing and trade of live animals and meat (cattle, sheep and goats), hides and skins and other associated livestock by-products.

We take pride in successfully working with abattoirs and butcheries to offer cutting edge trainings in flaying techniques with twin results of ensuring quality meat as well as high quality hides and skins ready for the end market. This has attracted the attention of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and through Land O’ Lakes Inc.,

We have been able to work with various stakeholders in the ASAL areas of Kenya namely, Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Tharaka Nithi, Meru and Taita Taveta. This was done through the Kenya Semi-Arid Livestock Enhancement Support (K-SALES) with the main objective of expanding trade through enhanced processing techniques and sanitary standards that respond to market demands.

In the process we have managed:

  1. To enhance the capacity of 37 processing facilities to adopt the recommended techniques that responds to the market standards.
  2. To equip 37 meat and meat products processing facilities with business management, marketing and financial management skills that will expand their business development.
  3. To increase the value and volumes of the livestock and livestock products sold in the targeted counties
